Hi,

Soon I volition need to give a HZJ78 an anti-corrosive underbody treatment past painting both the chassis, the body and all the suspension components. In order to have optimum working weather condition I need to remove/lift the body from the chassis. To those of you who have done this before could you please explain:

one. How you did it.
2. What tools and lifting equipment did y'all use.
three. What not to do.

and moreover

If yous are aware of other online sources where such removals/lifts are explained (maybe in some Land Rover forums), you are also welcome to post those links.

Thanks in advance,

Lucas

I did a chassis swap on my 60 serial. Got rid of the rusty canadian frame for a spanky make clean and painted JDM.

I use a hoist for lifting the trunk. you can lift the body using the pinch welds under the rockers.

Leave the unabridged body bolted together and mark the flooring. This way you tin roll the chassis dorsum to where you started and then information technology's easier to align the body with the frame when its time to bolt it dorsum on. Be prepared for deteriorated trunk mounts.

I used lots of seam sealer on the underside of the torso. Its amazing what's non protected properly.

Of course you lot have to remove the connections between your restriction, clutch, throttle, rut hoses, and whatsoever wires that adhere to the frame or motor (ground). I'thousand non sure if the seventy serial fuel tank mounts to the frame or body., On the 60 its the body so you lot don't accept to remove any fuel filler stuff.

I think I had to remove the seats to get at the body mount bolts, its a while agone and my retention's dim.

It'due south very straight forwards to get the body off and I used aluminum spacers to give the truck a 2 inch lift. Had to conform the rad of course only everything else bolted right support.

Cheers,

John

Theres a co. in South Africa that does this all the fourth dimension. They also convert left to right steering etc. Maybe someone downwards there can get on here and add more. MIke

What type of hoist did you employ and how exactly did you lift the body? Did you lot fabricate a steel frame (2 axle cross member)? I mean, you lot cannot have a single signal above the body - that manner you will squeeze information technology and make marks from ropes or whatever you lot use. This would be the critical office I call back.

Hi Lucas, the hoist I used was a 2 post hoist. This is a hoist often used in mechanic shops.

I have attached a link that shows the ii post configuration. Car Elevator, Automotive Lift, Machine Lifts, Vehicle Lift - Rotary Elevator

The arms of the hoist elevator the body. You just put the "hands" under the body at the rockers.

HTHS

This is indeed the luxury version. If I simply had such a hoist I would be happy :).

I would be very interested in some more low budget lifting options. If anyone has tried that.

I made an underbody photograph of 1 of the mounts:

https://plus.google.com/photos/1126...s/5697633536749454449?authkey=CLOe7O7XuNr-hwE

Does anyone have an reply to this:

You see a bare hexagonal part (looks like a 1/4") and simply above you see 2 hexagonal nuts securing the assembly. When removing the ii nuts I volition exist able to remove the body. However, having removed the 2 basics, volition I exist able to push the trunk upwards (using a minor jack) essentially pushing on the hexagonal ane/four" part????? This of grade needs to be done simultaneously at 4 mounting points (4 modest jacks) with assistance from friends. Once it has been lifted approx 1 inch, I volition slide in special tool (self fabrication) which volition lift the body the remaining distance. Only, does anyone know if the hexagonal part (actually a commodities with a one/four" hex end) is fully integrated with the body or will it only pop out because it is only designed for tension? Assuming the trunk weighs 500 kg, I merely need to use a force per unit area of 125 kg.

i bought a Princess car MaxJax lift and have been using it to lift the troopie body on and off and on and off for over a year. i love it. works well in shops with eight'6" ceilings.

to lift a trunk you want to make certain You lot are condom under it. money doesn't buy your widow happiness.

If this project is a i off,it may be cheaper to go someone out with a hiab crane mounted on a truck to elevator it off onto stands and lift information technology back on when the jobs done.

From memory yous accept to elevator the body at least 6 inches to clear the chassis

But, does anyone know if the hexagonal part (really a commodities with a 1/four" hex end) is fully integrated with the trunk or will it simply pop out because information technology is but designed for tension? Lucas

I bankrupt the forepart one due to rust trying to undo it and was able to purchase some other and just pop it back in,and then I assume they are all like that.
Its quite common to interruption them trying to remove a body. Your looks nice and clean

Hi again,

Thanks for your answers. I do have access to some lifting devices, but I need to know where exactly to lift the trunk off. The MaxJax looks similar a normal workshop lift (all the same mobile) but where exactly is the up force per unit area applied to the body. I don't want whatever deformations, dents and scratches whatsoever.

Next, do I also need to remove (before lifting):

All doors
All seats
Bonnet
Fenders

in order to take less body baloney?

Cheers in advance,

Lucas

take a wait at the troopie build and you can come across where i lift the full troopie body ...

I browsed all the pages but could not fine whatever good and clear pictures. Yet, please take expect at my album again (I uploaded another pic):

Should I lift the body where I put the red arrow? It is this rather sparse piece of body which actually is the absolutely lowest office of the unabridged body. I believe It consists of 2 sheets spot welded downwards in that location. Lifting the body hither would be like lifting the body on a knifes edge. Is this what you lot did?
